Our independent instructors
Our independent instructors bring even more styles of dance with club dances like West Coast Swing and Semba. We also have a dance fitness team who also bring their own programs to our studio.
Debbi is an independent instructor and owner of Wolf & Bee West Coast Swing. Debbi competes Nationally in West Coast Swing and currently teaches West Coast Swing group classes here at DanceSportVA. She is available for private instruction (either here at DanceSportVA or at Wolf & Bee Dance). Debbie is also host to occasional West Coast Swing dances here at the studio and specialty workshops throughout the year.
Dustin began dancing and competing in west coast swing in Florida during 2012 and started teaching in early 2014. Quickly rising through the competitive west coast swing scene and traveling around the east coast, he earned the title of allstar in 2016. He is always an energetic and friendly instructor with a vast knowledge on the in's and out's of west coast swing and is always happy to help others.
Rotita (Ro) Cunningham is the Company Director, instructor and choreographer. She first began her dance journey at a young age at Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center as a part of the Richmond City Dance Troupe. During her teen years, she performed with the Richmond Ballet and was accepted into the Center for the Arts at Henrico High School. She continued competing and student teaching where she then received professional credentials through Dance Olympus Competition and Dance America Competition. She took her talents to the Hampton Roads where she formed Gator Velocity Dance Team at Thomas Nelson Community College. She has won a number of awards for her choreography and dance instruction. Her have gone to perform with traveling dance companies, experience dance intensives across the country such as the Rockettes Dance Intensive and the Joffrey Ballet Chicago Dance Intensive and perform with celebrities and organizations such as the NFL and NBA.
Norman is the Associate Director, Hip-Hop/Urban Dance/Krump instructor and choreographer. He began his pursuit of dance in August of 2003 when he joined the Legion dance team at Thomas Nelson Community College and later the urban dance crew, Infamous. In early 2008, he started another crew, Inferno 20:9. Also, in mid 2008, he was introduced to his first opportunity to teach urban hip hop in a studio setting. His teaching, performance, and choreography have earned him numerous awards.
Serena is a recent graduate from Old Dominion University who majored in performing arts. She studied modern and ballet technique and performed at the University Dance Theatre at Old Dominion. She experienced modern, bali, musical theatre and hip-hop dancing and had the opportunity to perform in a choreographed hip-hop piece by James Morrow. From there she has took jazz funk and hip hop classes, featured in Wave Church Christmas productions, as well as compete at Dance Machine ANDC and Prelude Urban Dance Competition.
Cathleen is a young and innovative dancer and choreographer. Before dancing she was involved in acrobatics. She has competitively danced and trained in all styles and has danced and competed with multiple studios around Hampton Roads. In high school she was team captain of the dance team and co choreographed her two competitive solos and her jazz solo for Academic De Ballet. She won Miss VA PTA Reflections for choreography and innovation. She has Performed in studio productions, parades, open and closing for a local fashion show, and other performances.
From very young Erica expressed a love of dance. She trained in the art of dance for 15 years starting at the tender age of 3 years old, at Academie de Ballet, in Chesapeake, VA. Throughout her life, Erica has enjoyed ministering with her family through dance, vocal and instrumental music, drama, and art. She has participated in several dance ministries and performed as well as competed with the Master Works Dance Company. Erica continued her dance education as she majored in Dance at Old Dominion University.
Ashby Lane Owens
Instructor of kizomba, semba, body movement and beyond, Ashby offers workshops and training around the globe, always with a smile on her face.
Ashby prioritizes offering valuable information catered to follows, an important piece so often neglected.
Ashby conducts workshops at DanceSportVA about once or twice per month, so be sure to follow our calendar of events.
