OUR STORY

DanceSportVA was launched on July 19, 2002, by owners Betty Lu and Clive Stevens at Suite A, 5721 Arrowhead Drive in Virginia Beach. The studio provided private and group ballroom dance instruction, dance socials and an annual ballroom dance showcase.  In the summer of 2009, the studio created the Virginia Beach Dance Challenge: A regional ballroom dance competition which has run continuously since that time except for 2020 (COVID). 

 

In 2016 DanceSport LLC owners Bob & Maria, purchased DanceSportVA. DanceSport LLC registered with the State of Virginia to do business as DanceSportVA.  The studio continued to provide private and group dance instruction, dance socials and an annual ballroom dance showcase. In 2017 the new owners conducted a renovation of the existing studio, furniture and equipment.  In 2017 the studio became the first studio to acquire an “Art Instructional” ABC license from the State of Virginia.  The studio also became the first studio in the region to offer original Broadway style theatrical dance productions and has run them annually ever since.

In 2018, DanceSport LLC leased the adjacent suite B and opened the Virginia Beach Dance Club in following year. DanceSport  LLC is also registered to do business as Virginia Beach Dance Club. The build-out in suite B included a new floating dance floor, kitchen, restrooms, and storage room.  The studio also purchased new furniture, sound system and lighting system for the club.

In 2020 the studio added online classes and began showcasing our dance performances online in response to COVID.
